I have been following the path of a Ledger submitted transaction on Polkadot JS Apps, and have found that the Ledger device is generating a signature here in hw-ledger/src/bundle.ts.
I am unable however to find where this signature is applied to a Submittable and actually submitted. Moreover, I cannot find any documentation or use cases of addSignature in the js-apps codebase or in the documentation.
This is effecting my ability to troubleshoot another issue that is yielding a bad signature error when submitting a Ledger-signed transaction in my external codebase.
